The International Iron Metallics Association (IIMA) is the trade association for the Ore-Based Metallics (OBM) industry. Ore-based metallics, such as merchant pig iron (MPI), direct reduced iron (DRI), hot briquetted iron (HBI), granulated pig iron (GPI), are value-adding feedstock materials for the iron and steel and ferrous casting industries. IIMA has, as its principal objective, their promotion through product and market support, innovation, education and regulatory support.
IIMA is dedicated to those involved in the ore-based metallics value chain - raw material supply, production and transformation, trading and distribution, transportation and logistics, technology and equipment. Its members account for more than 80% of production and international trade in ore-based metallics.
IIMA’s Members are:
• Producers, Traders and Distributors of merchant pig iron, HBI, DRI and related materials
• Iron ore Mining companies
• Steel plants, foundries and, in general, consumers of OBMs
• Suppliers of technology and equipment to the OBM industry
• Shipping and logistics providers
• Metallics project developers
Our mission is to:
• promote the use of ore-based metallics as value-adding raw materials for the iron and steel and ferrous casting industries;
• represent the collective interests of Members in international industry, trade, and regulatory forums;
• collect and provide statistical and other industry information, commercially sensitive or proprietary information always excluded;
• provide a forum for co-operation and exchange of ideas and information on scientific and technical matters related to the ore-based metallics industries.
