Who are we?
UKNAR (UK National Asbestos Register) is a social enterprise established to help management & dutyholders manage asbestos simply and safely while better informing and educating people who may be at risk.
Using inexpensive, easy to use modern technology and working with like-minded people and organisations such as Mesothelioma UK we believe we can prevent thousands of future deaths from asbestos related diseases.
Mesothelioma UK is the leading charity supporting Mesothelioma victims and clinical research into this fatal asbestos related disease which kills over 2,700 people in the UK each year.
Our primary aim is to protect people from unnecessary and potentially deadly exposure to asbestos fibres. Hundreds of thousands of UK workplaces, public buildings, schools, hospitals and homes still contain asbestos. Despite improved legislation, there are still thousands of accidental exposures to asbestos every year: Mostly because people are unaware of the presence of asbestos or its danger.
UKNAR provides a national asbestos database. All existing asbestos registers can be uploaded and linked to our simple Asbestos SMART technology. Dutyholders can make this key information instantly and freely available to all those that need it, fulfilling their legal obligations whilst helping reduce the number of potentially fatal accidental exposures.
Our Aims
UKNAR wish to change and improve the awareness and culture around asbestos management so that thousands of people no longer need to die due to ignorance, ineffective management or indifferent employers - as has sadly been the case for so many decades.
By December 2022 we would like 80% of all public sector buildings which contain asbestos to be on the UK National Asbestos Register.
Profits will be reinvested to help improve the education and awareness of contractors, dutyholders and the general public. We will work together with other key established associations in this field to achieve this.
