Women in Science and Engineering – University of Toronto (WISE U of T) was established in 1999, arising as a forum for female students to share their experiences. The organization was enthusiastically welcomed by both students and faculty, and has since developed into a highly regarded campus organization with over 2000 members. To develop women’s leadership skills, confidence, and involvement in research and technology, WISE focuses on building a supportive community of men and women through a number of initiatives.
- To create a network for women across Canada, each year WISE hosts the WISE National Conference where delegates hear from high-level speakers, participate in workshops and fireside chats, compete in case competitions and network with other students from across Canada as well as industry professionals during the Wine and Cheese Networking portion
- Our Professional Development Initiative hosts interactive networking sessions during the year with top companies in Software and IT, Engineering, Medical Affairs, Consulting, Finance and Banking.
- Our Mentorship Initiative allows student mentees to seek advice and knowledge from industry mentors.
- Our Community Outreach Initiative allows us to expand our club outreach into the community at large, through the organization of volunteer-based events.
- Our High School Outreach Initiative encourages high school students to pursue science and engineering at the university level through high school visits, student mentorship programs and high school competitions.
