National Service Scheme is a permanent youth programme under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. The motto of NSS is “not me but you”. It underlines that the individual welfare is ultimately dependent on the welfare of a society and thus at NSS Dyal Singh College (Morning) we work to make the world a better place.
NSS DSC comprises of enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers who are well-guided by team of experienced seniors and esteemed professors to help them build sustainable and comprehensive models for the betterment of people in not only Delhi and its nearby areas but also hometowns of our volunteers, thus spreading the good work all across the country.
We aim to inculcate a spirit of service in the volunteers which will help them in becoming responsible citizens dedicated towards the betterment of our nation and the world at large in every aspect. We work to eradicate various stereotypes and malpractices based on different biases such as gender, caste, sexuality and regional biases etc by spreading awareness through our diverse group of volunteers. The main motto is to create a better society by helping as many people in any way as possible.
The main objectives of National Service Scheme (NSS) are :
• Understand the community in which they work
• Understand themselves in relation to their community
• Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving
• Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility
• Utilise their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems
• Develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities
• Gain skills in mobilising community participation
• Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes
• Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters and
• Practise national integration and social harmony
