A campaign to mobilise consumers to buy from female founded businesses by showcasing who they are and why buying from them is our quickest path to a stronger, fairer economy.
By shining a light on women-built businesses, the campaign brings choice to consumers who want to buy with purpose and values they identify with, creating direct consumer support for women-built businesses.
There is no better time for this. Our rates of female entrepreneurship in the UK are particularly low, 30% lower than USA. Closing the gap between male and female entrepreneurship has long had the potential to contribute an additional £200 billion to the British economy. The impact of the pandemic is only widening that gap.
So much has been, and is being done to remove barriers to female entrepreneurship thanks to the Alison Rose Review of Female Entrepreneurship 2019. However, we feel there is one area that hasn’t yet been tackled — the visibility of female-built businesses in the eyes of consumers. As someone in the female entrepreneurial ecosystem we know how many businesses and brands around us are women built, but the average consumer doesn’t. Most are also unaware how disproportionately these businesses have been affected by the pandemic. Nor do they appreciate what an enormous role encouraging more female entrepreneurs will play in our economic recovery.
That's why we need a campaign to BUY WOMEN BUILT. Not everyone can invest or mentor a female business owner, but everyone can buy their products or services.
Our strategy is to mobilise the spending power of consumers and leverage the trend towards socially conscious shopping to create long-lasting support for women-owned businesses by:
1. Identifying and raising consumer awareness of the thriving range of women built businesses we already have in the UK.
2. Educating consumers on the values of the brands and how large the social and economic benefits of buying from them are.
