Background - Independent Choices was founded in 1978 as the Women’s Domestic Violence Helpline. Our services developed in the mid 1990’s into a multi-project organisation.
Our Vision -All women and their dependents are made aware of their rights and offered choices so that they can live without the fear of domestic abuse.
A key focus of the work of the organisation includes the services of the Women’s domestic abuse Helpline including Community Language Helpline Services.
Independent Choices works at a strategic level across Greater Manchester attending on average one strategic or service planning meeting on domestic abuse each week. We are a main co-coordinating agency of the ‘End the fear’ campaign partnership and we run events, media releases and conferences on key domestic abuse issues annually. We liaise closely with domestic abuse services both voluntary and statutory in each borough of Greater Manchester.
We offer services over a range of social media and in 2010 we had 6073 unique hits on our website.
