Established in 1998, My Life My Choice (MLMC) is a small/medium sized, multi-award winning (e.g. Queens Award for Voluntary Service 2017) independent charity based in Oxfordshire seeking to make a difference to the lives of those with learning disabilities (including autism). MLMC currently supports 733 members to lead fuller and more active lives by facilitating social events, training, employment and self-advocacy. The charity is 100% user-led with all 15 trustees, elected annually by the membership, having a learning disability.
The MLMC projects provide opportunities to speak up, campaign, socialise, engage in volunteer work, perform paid work, learn new skills, and to be leaders (e.g. trustees). The charity’s opportunities are provided via the projects which include Gig Buddy (a be-friending scheme), a social enterprise (user-led training, inspections, research and consultations), self-advocacy groups, a travel buddy scheme (supporting independent travel), and the Champions team where members speak up and campaign.
There is no other charity like MLMC in Oxfordshire.
