Palm Leaf Innovations
Change is inevitable as the wheel of time continues its journey. With technological advancements many novel things are created, some are metamorphosed while others undergo extinction. The things of the past get attached to our memory as nostalgia and find a place in museums and private archives, the greatest example being the palm leaf manuscripts.
Keeping Ashtamangalyam (8 sacred items) during auspicious ceremonies occupies a significant part in Kerala’s rich cultural tradition. Palm leaf manuscript is one among these items. Occasions like weddings and housewarmings are virtually incomplete without the Ashtamangalyam. Also, palm leaf manuscripts occupy an integral part in rituals like Vishu and Navarathri. Unavailability of palm leaf manuscripts has forced Keralites to use printed books in its place. The aim of Palm Leaf Innovations is to make these “Granthams” accessible to all in its true indigenous form.
The difficulty in getting palm leaves and the immense expenses incurred in the writing process has made us look for other alternatives. Good quality eco-friendly paper which, in every aspect has resemblance to palm leaves helped us overcome this hurdle. At the same time we are successful in giving out these scriptures written in original palm leaves as per the requirement and order of many.
With the grace of almighty, Palm Leaf Innovations has so far published Lalitha Sahasranamam, Vishnu Sahasranamam, Harinamakeerthanam, Devimaahatmayam and Adhyatma Ramayanam , all in palm leaf manuscript format. The whole hearted acceptance of these by the people is beyond words and has encouraged us greatly for our future ventures. The support and blessings bestowed on us by our customers has motivated us to move forward with the printing of these scriptures in other Indian languages. Our current endeavour of publishing Hanuman chalisa in Devanagiri script is a step towards this goal. Apart from this, we are also on the move to get these scriptures printed in English as well.
Our Lalitha Sahasranamam and Adhyatma Ramayanam received the award for excellence in printing. Besides this, Adhyatma Ramayanam also received
URF’s national Record as well as the World record. Above all, Ramayama also found a place in the 2018 Limca Book of Records. It was also selected as the Book of the year 2017 by Publishing Next.
Such a venture would be the first in the realm of printing and publishing. In an era where the trend of reading has moved from printed books to E-books and advanced media like Kindle, an endeavour such as this might lead one to think if it is a journey to the past. We are filled with gratitude and happiness to the brim when we are told by many that they see these “Granthas” as something to treasure and cherish. The openness with which our customers accepted us and the value they give to our efforts is indeed a matter of joy and pleasure for us.
Many buy our “Granthas” not for the purpose of reading alone but also to gift it as a mark of respect to their gurus and the elderly or as a present for festive occasions such as house warming.
The great sages, vedic seers and scholars of ancient India used palm leaf manuscripts or granthas as a means to record their experiential knowledge and to keep an account of their achievements. We are attempting to bring these valuable scriptures into the limelight with the help of advanced technology. Palm Leaf Innovations is an infant in this realm and needs your blessings and support for its future journey.
