The Mental Awareness Foundation (MAF) strongly advocates for the rights, acceptance and recognition of people dealing with mental illnesses and leads the crusade to break the taboo of talking about suicide and depression.
To achieve the above, MAF rallies people together to raise funds to support selected charities that work directly with communities to raise awareness of depression and mental illness, while supporting the preservation of life. MAF is run by a union of individuals who are determined to make a difference.
Each year, on the first Sunday in October, the official Walk for Awareness kicks off Qld Mental Health Week - "Walk for Awareness" is an event that involves bringing people together in a friendly environment where the issues of mental health can be discussed openly with friends, family and supportive strangers. We believe the matters surrounding suicide should be discussed, not hidden.
