The Center for International Knowledge on Development (CIKD) was officially launched in August 2017. CIKD was announced in President Xi Jinping’s speech at the 2015 UN Development Summit. CIKD is an independent institution affiliated with the Development Research Center of the State Council, P.R. China (DRC). President Xi Jinping and UN Secretary-General António Guterres sent congratulatory letters to the launching ceremony.
CIKD is mandated to research and communicate Chinese development knowledge for global development. Its main functions include:
• To pool Chinese and international research resources;
• To undertake research on development theories and practices;
• To organize exchange of research findings on international development issues, including the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (“2030 Agenda”).
To put it together, CIKD strives to research and communicate with other countries on development theories and practices suitable to their respective national conditions with reference to China’s development experience. It aims to make important contributions to the sharing of development wisdom, the promotion of international development cooperation and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
