Skill Council for Green Jobs is one of the most recently approved Skill Councils. The creation of the SCGJ was approved in the 10th meeting of National Skills Qualifications Committee held on 28th September 2015. The SCGJ has been formally registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI, 1860 on 1st October 2015. The preparatory phase of Skill Council for Green jobs started after the approval of NSDC Board on 20th July 2015. This skill council is promoted by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). From industry side, the SCGJ is promoted by ReNew Power, one of the leading industry for the development of Solar and Wind Power Projects.
