Engineers without Borders Belgium (Ingenieurs zonder grenzen - IzG) is a non-profit organisation (VZW) founded in 1992 as an initiative from the Royal Flemish Engineering Association (Koninklijke Vlaamse Ingenieursvereniging - KVIV, now ie-net).
The goal of the organisation is to apply technical know-how from volunteering engineers for humanitarian purposes in developing countries. IzG supports non-commercial projects in water, energy, infrastructure, agriculture and environmental projects in collaboration with other non-profit organisations, municipalities, 4th pillar initiatives and NGO's.
From the perspective of IzG, development cooperation is to support the local population in the development of their self-sufficiency, in collaboration with the locally present organizations. Development of sustainable solutions, owned by the local population, should be promoted as much as possible.
