UniSport Australia is the national sporting organisation and peak body for university sport in Australia and is recognised by the Australian Sports Commission, Australian Olympic Committee and the International University Sports Federation in this capacity. The organisation currently has 43 university members and represents more than one million tertiary students.
The UniSport head office is in Brisbane with a number of staff situated across the country delivering member services, assisting with sport sector developments and staging UniSport annual regional and national events. It has a board of nine Directors contributing strategic direction, governance and leadership to the organisation.
UniSport aims to:
● foster university sport as a relevant and important part of university life
● provide leadership in university sport
● provide national policy in relation to university sport
● facilitate opportunities for students to participate in competitive sport at a regional, national and international level
● lobby and represent, on behalf of its members, the sporting needs of Australia's university students.
Working closely with its members as well as state and national sporting organisations, UniSport manages and delivers regional, national and international sporting programs. Competitions are held for over 40 sports in various championship and multisport games formats.
UniSport also organises international sporting tours and manages Australia's participation in the elite World Summer and Winter University Games and World University Championships. UniSport delivers its international competition program under the umbrella of and in partnership with the Australian Institute of Sport’s Winning Edge program.
UniSport provides a range of supplementary activities to its members including innovative alliances between corporate and university sport sectors and professional development opportunities, including the annual UniSport Australia National Conference.
