Tracing its roots back to 1548, Bradford Grammar School, is a leading independent school in West Yorkshire, providing an ‘outstanding education’ (ISI) for girls and boys aged 6 to 18 (4 to 18 from 2024). Pupils from diverse backgrounds are happy, valued and encouraged to flourish in an academic environment designed to inspire them to reach their full potential and equip them for life in a global society.
At GCSE, our results far exceed the national average. In 2023, 52% were awarded 9/8, while 73% achieved 9-7 (equivalent to A and above under the ‘old’ system) and 97% 9-4 (once C and above). In 2023, 152 A Level students celebrated outstanding success with 55% achieving A*/A grades. Overall, 94% of students at BGS secured A-C grades. Of the 152 students who applied in 2023, 89% continued to higher education in the UK or abroad.
A broad curriculum is supported by excellent pastoral care. Extensive facilities including workshops, laboratories, a 25m swimming pool, sports’ pavilion, all weather sports’ barn and pitch, squash and tennis courts, recording studio, music auditorium, state of the art library and the Hockney Theatre.
Pupils can choose from over 50 clubs and societies, from rowing and orienteering, to war games, debating and chess.
Former pupils include David Hockney, Denis Healey, Sir Ken Morrison, Olympic champions Alistair and Jonny Brownlee, Adrian Moorhouse MBE, long distance runner Emile Cairess and cyclist Abby-Mae Parkinson to name but a few.
