Since 1988, we have existed to help individuals and families become safely and supportively housed, free from homelessness and family violence.
Building Futures' residential sites include San Leandro and Midway homeless shelters (55 beds); Sister Me Home domestic violence safe house (20 beds); and Bessie Coleman Court: 52 units of temporary and permanent supportive housing.
Our domestic violence domestic outreach program touches the lives of thousands each year through a 24-hour crisis line, community outreach, direct support and education for victims, free and confidential support groups, and a semi-annual 40-hour domestic violence counselor training.
In response to the Great Recession, we implemented a major Housing Assistance program. Today, our Housing Resources Center continues to help Alameda County residents avert homelessness or become quickly housed after having become homeless.
