For almost 100 years, Tuomey has been synonymous with quality healthcare in the Sumter, South Carolina area. After a century of change and progress, this multifaceted healthcare system meets the needs of the community through acute care, outpatient services and a comprehensive health promotion and disease prevention program.
The healthcare system is anchored by Tuomey Regional Medical Center, a 301-bed The Joint Commission-accredited institution that delivers the industry’s most advanced technological care with an even higher level of patient consideration. In fact, Avatar International and Press Ganey have both honored us with some of their highest awards for Exceeding Patient Expectations and Patient Satisfaction.
Tuomey was made possible through the generosity of a local philanthropist, Timothy J. Tuomey, who left provisions in his will that led to the acquisition of the Sumter Hospital in 1913. Were he alive today, he would no doubt be amazed at the growth and transformation that is now under way at the hospital that bears his name.
Tuomey’s active medical staff consists of more than 150 physicians, representing more than 25 medical specialties. In the last 10 years, the medical staff has more than tripled, indicative of the aggressive growth and commitment of the institution to providing an unprecedented level of healthcare to the community.
Included in the system’s facilities are a 36-bed nursery, an expanded ICU, 10 operating suites, an Outpatient Surgery Center, an award winning Day Surgery Unit, a beautiful Women & Infants Pavilion and a satellite medical park. Tuomey’s diagnostic and treatment capabilities include a medical oncology program, Cancer Treatment Center, cardiac catheterization and updated HiSpeed Computed Tomography. Transitional care is provided to patients via Tuomey Home Services, along with a Subacute Skilled Care program.
