Overview of the CompanyFounded in 1985 in France, LC Waikiki brand was acquired by the current LC Waikiki Mağazacılık in 1997. Being an example to various brands with its collections and retail perception and the centre of affordable fashion, LC Waikiki has been maintaining its growth adventure as a Turkish brand for 16 years under the umbrella of LC Waikiki Mağazacılık.
FROM PAST TO TODAY
1985 – 1996
Foundation of LC Waikiki
LC Waikiki was founded as a French brand in 1985. French designer George Amoual and his partner decided to enter the ready-made garment market by creating a new brand. George and his partner found the name of the brand during a plane trip made when they decided to enter ready-made garment market. They were thrilled by the promotion article of the famous Waikiki Beach on a magazine they were reading and thought that Waikiki name would be ideal for their different designs. LC Waikiki brand name was created when they affixed the initials of “Les Copains” which means “friends” in French.
Cooperation of LC Waikiki and Taha Tekstil…
The brand which became famous and reached high sales figures in a short time in French, started to work with Turkish company Taha Tekstil to meet its production needs. During said years, when the textile and ready-made garment industry of Turkey developed and became prominent in the global market with its production and raw material strength, Taha Tekstil strengthened the cooperation by strongly meeting the expectations of LC Waikiki. Taha Tekstil started to grow by increasing its investments as a result of the success achieved with LC Waikiki and in the forthcoming years, Taha Group, making subcontractor production for the world’s most famous brands, was founded with the new production companies.
Tema Tekstil and almost 700 LC Waikiki dealers…
Taha Group established Tema Tekstil in 1991 in line with its wholesale and brand creation targets. At first, Tema Tekstil started to sell LC Waikiki products in Turkey through dealers based on the wholesales system by purchasing the licence of LC Waikiki, the most important export customer of Taha Group, in Turkey. At the beginning, all designs of LC Waikiki were carried out in French and the first designer team is created within Tema Tekstil in 1993. Although the foundation aim of Tema Tekstil is wholesale, they drew the attention of both investors and consumers within short time with successful collections created for youth and kid’s wear market and effective marketing methods. Thus, the number of dealers increased day by day. Encouraged from this success, Tema Tekstil created a separate designer team for adults’ readymade garment market in 1995. LC Waikiki reached almost 700 dealers throughout Turkey until the retailing attack in 2000 and thereafter.
1996 – 2000
LC Waikiki became a Turkish brand!
In line with the retail market penetration strategy of Taha Group in 1996, Tema Mağazacılık A.Ş was founded with the aim of opening new stores and selling LC Waikiki products in company’s own stores instead of dealers. In 1997, partners of LC Waikiki decided to sell the brand when research and feasibility works of Taha Group to create their own group brand were accelerated in line with strategic plans. Within this period, as the sales of LC Waikiki in Turkey continued to increase rapidly and Taha Group was willing to own a brand, royalty of LC Waikiki all over the world was purchased and LC Waikiki became a Turkish brand in 1997.
Following this development, Taha Group decided to pull out of French market for a while to restructure both the collection and retailing perception of LC Waikiki. With a radical decision taken in the same period, sales through dealers decreased with the significant reduction in number of dealers, and number of LC Waikiki stores, which was 21 back then, started to increase rapidly as the investments in retailing were accelerated.
Retailing attack and Tema Group…Giving its retailer identity prominence and focusing on opening its own stores since 2000, Tema Mağazacılık expedited to its project to open modern stores where LC Waikiki collections will be presented to customers.
After this radical decision, Taha Group also decided to carry out production and retailing activities in two different group companies. Thus, production companies and companies in garment retailing industry are started to operate within Taha Group and Tema Group respectively. Taha Group and Tema group took quick steps to grow in production and retailing respectively.
2000 -2011
LC Waikiki and new brands…
Taking a decision to present collections to address consumers with different lifestyles with sub-brands in LC Waikiki stores, Tema Group introduced XSIDE to Turkish consumers in 2000 in addition to LC Waikiki. XSIDE addresses youngsters above the age of 15 who keep up with the fashion.
Leader of readymade garment industry in Turkey…
Recently, Tema Group changed its name to LC Waikiki Mağazacılık. LC Waikiki Mağazacılık carries out the production of products presented in its own stores through a global supply chain. LC Waikiki Mağazacılık is one of the leader groups in readymade garment industry in Turkey with both its experience in production gained by Taha Group and the successes achieved by LC Waikiki brand in readymade garment retail industry.
Successful growth…
LC Waikiki Mağazacılık reached turnover amounting TRY 255 million at the end of 2004; TRY 346 million with an increase of 35% at the end of 2005; TRY 495 million with an increase of 43% at the end of 2006; TRY 719 million with an increase of 45% at the end of 2007; TRY 1 billion 49 million with an increase of 46% at the end of 2008; TRY 1 billion 428 million with an increase of 36% at the end of 2009; TRY 2 billion 107 million with an increase of 48% at the end of 2010; TRY 2 billion 900 million with an increase of 35% at the end of 2011; and TRY 3.5 billion in 2012.
Today, LC Waikiki Mağazacılık manages an industry leader retail store chain providing service to millions of people with more than 380 LC Waikiki stores in 71 cities in Turkey. LC Waikiki preserves its market leader position in Readymade Garment Consumption Index Report prepared and published by KMP semi-annually since the summer of 2004.
Targeting top three positions in Europe…
LC Waikiki Magazacilik, which started its international investments in 2009, opened its first European store in Romania. With over 650 stores in 31 countries including Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Egypt , Georgia, Iraq, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, Morocco, Poland, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates. With the aim of rapidly expanding in international markets since 2012, LC Waikiki Mağazacılık operates with the vision of being one of the three most successful retailers in Europe by 2023.
