Construction of The Plaza Hotel began in 1926 and was completed in 1928. The hotel was modeled after the Spanish-American style which was popular at the time.
Owned by a group of local businessmen, the hotel was originally named Kamloops Community Hotel. The official opening saw a grand banquet with rooftop dancing by many prominent citizens and dignitaries in attendance including representatives of both the Canadian National Railway and the Canadian Pacific Railway, who kept the spirit of the evening lively with their friendly verbal sparring.
After an extensive six month renovation, The Plaza Hotel reopened again in the summer of 2012. A ribbon cutting ceremony and grand opening party welcomed many local politicians and business people. It was a true rebirth of The Plaza Hotel. Along with complete renovations of all guestrooms and common areas, The Plaza Hotel has added all the modern amenities necessary to make guests feel comfortable.
