The Kodiak Police Department’s mission is to ensure the safety of our residents through leading and coordinating efforts within the community; and to be responsive to those in urgent situations, protect the rights of all persons, improve the quality of life, and prevent crime.
The Kodiak Island Archipelago is located 252 air miles southwest of Anchorage. Kodiak’s diverse economy is based on commercial fishing and seafood processing, construction and development, international trade, timber and tourism. Kodiak’s ports are home to over 770 commercial fishing vessels, making it the largest commercial fishing port in Alaska.
The Kodiak Police Department (KPD) is the principal law enforcement agency and provides twenty-four patrol, criminal investigation support, animal control and parking enforcement services.
The KPD Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) provides communication support and dispatch services to all police, fire and EMS agencies in Kodiak.
The KPD also operates the Kodiak Jail, the newest and busiest non-state jail in the entire State of Alaska.
