UNICEF is an inter-governmental agency mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to advocate for the protection of children's rights and to support governments in realising their rights.
UNICEF mobilizes political will and material resources to help countries, particularly developing countries, build their capacity to form appropriate policies and deliver services for children and their families.
UNICEF works with partners from both the private and public sector in more than 190 countries and territories through country programmes or national committees.
We have been working for the children of Sri Lanka since the early 1950s (through our India Office) and since 1973, through our office in Colombo and field offices in Killinochchi and Batticoloa.
