Fraport Bulgaria is the German-Bulgarian company awarded the 35-year concession for operating Burgas (BOJ) and Varna (VAR) airports. Fraport holds a majority 60-percent share in the joint company. In particular, Fraport Bulgaria is responsible for operating, managing and developing these two Black Sea 24-hour gateways: Varna Airport serving the northeast and Burgas Airport the southwest of Bulgaria. Tasks include training and improving employee qualification and expertise, enhancing service quality and the overall passenger experience, upgrading airport equipment and introducing new technologies, as well as modernizing and expanding infrastructure. Together, VAR and BOJ welcomed more than 4,9 million passengers and handled well over 37 000 flights in 2017 – served by 99 airlines offering charter and scheduled services to some 181 destinations in Europe, Middle East and Northern Africa. More than 630 permanent employees and 1,200 seasonal employees work at Fraport Bulgaria in Varna and Burgas.
