Toastmasters International was founded in October of 1924 and currently has over 270,000 members in more than 13,000 clubs that are located in 116 countries.
The City of Norfolk Toastmasters is a diverse group of professionals, retirees, and students dedicated to creating a supportive learning environment where all members have positive experiences and multiple opportunities to develop oral communication, critical thinking, and leadership skills.
Club #6822 provides its members with opportunities to develop and improve their oral communication skills through weekly local club meetings, training seminars, speech contests, and other events. Additionally, multiple leadership opportunities are assigned each meeting and members are encouraged to participate in the club's business running for officer positions.
The club's passion for member improvement and high standards of excellence are recognized annually by Toastmaster's International. Since 2003, The City of Norfolk Toastmasters has been a part of the Distinguished Club Program, which requires clubs to meet membership prerequisites and a set list of goals. For the 3rd year in a row, Club #6822 is a recipient of the President's Select Distinguished Award, the highest level of recognition available in the distinguished club program.
