Waterville Valley Black and Blue Trail Smashers / Snowsports Educational Foundation (WVBBTS / SEF) has its roots in one of the oldest ski clubs in the United States, dating back to 1934. The Black and Blue Trail Smashers club existed for 31 years before the Waterville Valley Ski Area was developed in 1965. During the late 1960’s the social ski club transitioned to a competitive alpine competition club and the WV was added to its name. From that time through the early 1990’s, Waterville Valley hosted 11 World Cups. By the early 1970’s our skiers began winning spots on the US Ski Team, World Cup circuit and on the US Olympic Alpine Team. In 1972 WVBBTS developed our Freestyle Competition Program and founded Waterville Valley Academy. The following year we received our 501(c)3 status as WVBBTS / SEF. In 1996 we added our Snowboard Competition Training Program. The decade beginning with the year 2000 saw sustained growth in Club and WVA enrollments. In 2006 the groundwork was laid for our Master Plan with the purchase of the 9.5 acre parcel at Snow’s Mountain. In 2007 a Strategic Plan was developed through a process involving representatives from all our constituencies to focus attention on key aspects of the Club and WVA. We have been recognized by USSA as one of the premier snowsports clubs in the country. Our athletes have attained not only the highest awards and accolades in their disciplines but have gone on to lead meaningful lives benefiting their greater communities and the world.
