I’m From Driftwood (IFD) is the online platform for recording and sharing first-person stories of LGBTQIA+ people of all backgrounds around the world. The 501(c)(3) nonprofit’s collection of more than 1,400 videos and written oral histories are shared freely online – giving voice to and forging connections among often marginalized, silenced or invisible people, educating people about the joys and challenges, complexities and intersectionalities of LGBTQIA+ lives, and increasing empathy in IFD viewers. The stories have garnered more than 37 million views on YouTube alone. IFD stories spark dialogue, and move people to action in their own lives and communities including coming out, changing discriminatory policies and supporting LGBTQIA+ elders and youth. 50-state Story Tour: In 2011, I’m From Driftwood completed a 4-month, 50-state story collection tour. The Tour was accepted into the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History.
