In 2012 Motion Project Foundation formally called Wheels With Wings Foundation, was established in Buffalo, NY by Natalie Barnhard and is a recognized 501©3 non-profit organization. The foundation became a vision and personal goal of Natalie Barnhard early on in her injury while experiencing how challenging it can be to obtain critical items such as intense rehabilitation therapy, home modifications, and other equipment, which was needed as a result of a spinal cord injury.
Wheels with Wings Foundation, Inc, celebrated the transition of its name to MOTION PROJECT FOUNDATION, INC. on October 22, 2019. With the help of generous donations, MOTION PROJECT FOUNDATION, INC. opened the only facility of its kind in Western New York in June of 2021. The center offers state-of-the-art equipment, advanced robotic technologies, highly trained and specialized clinicians and cutting-edge therapies providing the best chance for recovery for people living with paralysis.
Since 2012 the foundation has awarded quality of life grants to spinal cord injured individuals who are deprived of the resources they desperately need, to live long, healthy and happy lives. Now MOTION PROJECT will be able to provide a lifetime of support for people living with paralysis by offering intense activity-based recovery programs, advocacy, education, research, support and encouragement right here in Western NY.
Based on extensive research, activity-based therapy programs provide the best chance for recovery and independence for people with paralysis. They can continue to work on their physical strength, to improve their overall health and possibly progress beyond their original prognosis.
