The University Campus spread over 263 acres of land is situated in the picturesque setting of glittering snow clad mountains of Harmokh range, the placid waters of Dal Lake and the divine grace of Hazratbal Shrine. The University comprises the Amarsingh Bagh, the Mughal Garden of Chinars and the Mirza Bagh. It is under the shade of Chinars in the University Campus that Moulana Abul Kalam Azad wrote some of his letters during his visit to Kashmir which later found place in his famous Gubar-i-Khatir. In pursuit of higher learning the University provides large facilities in terms of teaching faculties, infrastructure and library. The University has 54 departments and offers 65 courses and programmes in diverse disciplines of science, arts, humanities and technology. The University has kept pace with the new developments in the field of education and information revolution and has introduced postgraduate courses in Environmental Sciences, Information Technology, Embedded System and Solutions, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Psychology and Social Work. The fully computerized library of the University has access to information through VSAT, Radio Link and Campus Networking. The central facility of research in science and technology has been fully upgraded and brought in tune with national and international standards.
The faculty and the departments of the University are working on several significant research projects in which a large number of teachers as well as students are engaged. The University has a mechanism of offering consultancy services as well.
