The Association of Ontario Midwives is the professional organization representing midwives and the practice of midwifery in the province of Ontario. It is run by a Board of Directors.
In Ontario, a midwife is a registered health-care professional who provides primary care to low-risk clients throughout pregnancy, labour and birth. Midwives also provide care to both client and baby during the six weeks following birth. There are currently more than 1000 midwives in Ontario.
