In the Philippines, UNIDO’s development priorities are aligned with the updated Philippine Development Plan (2014-2016) and are consistent with various national plans being implemented by governmental agencies. In its capacity as a specialized agency of the United Nations, UNIDO interacts closely with various partners in the country to bring together resources and best practices from different sectors to promote Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development (ISID) as one of the important paths to eradicate poverty and attain inclusive growth for Filipinos.
Guided by the agreements made during the Rio+20 Conference on Sustainable Development, UNIDO works toward achieving both social and economic transformations in the Philippines through the provisions of technical assistance and best practices within its mandate and core competencies.
UNIDO is committed to assisting the Philippines in attaining sustainable development by delivering meaningful interventions in the areas of productivity, trade facilitation, energy, and environment. UNIDO’s programme in the country beyond 2015 will revolve around the following thematic priorities consistent with government plans:
• Sustainable energy/ Renewable energy
• Trade facilitation and MSME development
• Environmental protection
• Rural and agro-industrial development
• Post-disaster livelihood and economic recovery
In its development efforts in the Philippines, UNIDO takes into account relevant cross-cutting areas such as human rights, sustainability, jobs creation, gender equality, innovation, climate change adaptation/ disaster risk reduction, and youth employment. UNIDO will assist the Philippines in achieving its targets identified in the post–2015 Sustainable Development Goals.
