Dietrich | Untertrifaller is an internationally operating architectural practice with roots in Vorarlberg, focusing its architecture on the respectful use of resources, the development of socially balanced spaces and the appreciation of the cultural and architectural context. Since its founding, the office has played a pioneering role in modern timber construction. Today, it is managed by Helmut Dietrich, Much Untertrifaller, Dominik Philipp and Patrick Stremler and employs an international team of over 120 people at locations in Austria (Bregenz and Vienna), Switzerland (St. Gallen), France (Paris) and Germany (Munich).
Their entire spectrum ranging from large-scale buildings and urban structures through alterations of existing buildings to single-family homes defies specialization, constantly challenges and inspires creativity and an inquiring mind. The international projects are often realised together with local offices and regional partners.
A decisive factor in all their work is the resource-saving and appropriate use of materials, with a particular commitment to contemporary timber construction. They are well known for their expertise in design and construction and maintain this knowhow through relationships of dialogue and trust with clients, craftsmen and engineers. Dietrich | Untertrifaller often share their knowledge in course of lectures and in teaching.
Their innovative and sustainable buildings received numerous awards, including the Wiener Wohnbaupreis 2019 / Vienna Housing Award (Residential complex In der Wiesen Süd, Vienna), the Prix National de la Construction Bois 2017 (Sports Center Alice Milliat Lyon) and the State Award for Architecture and Sustainability 2017 (Elementary School Edlach, Dornbirn).
