Company Details
Jane Addams founded Hull House in 1889 on Chicago’s West Side to help the neighborhood’s desperately needy immigrants. Hull House quickly became a center of social and political reform. It was Chicago’s first settlement house and soon became a community center for education, reform, recreation and social activities, growing into a model for the rest of the world. Miss Addams was the first American woman to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize on December 10, 1931. The State of Illinois now celebrates Jane Addams Day on December 10th in her honor. Jane Addams’ ideals continue to live on in the work of Jane Addams Hull House Association. We have more than 50 programs at over 40 sites throughout Chicago and annually impact 60,000 people from economically, culturally and geographically diverse backgrounds. For 120 years, we have been dedicated to helping people build better lives for themselves and their families by following Miss Addams’ simple mission of neighbors helping neighbors.
