Vision: Eradicating human trafficking in Washington State.
Mission: Washington Engage seeks to prevent sex and labor trafficking in Washington State through initiatives and tools to organize and empower local community groups to take action
THE PROBLEM
Human trafficking is a crime that is hidden in plain sight.
It is happening in every State. It is perpetuated by cultural mindsets like “these foreign nationals are better off here than in their nation of origin” or “prostitution is the oldest profession.” Services to respond to the crime are overwhelmed and under-resourced.
CURRENT STRATEGY
Human trafficking is a complex social problem that inflicts serious harm on individual survivors, as well as on our social system. Thus far, most resources have been dedicated to rescuing victims and prosecuting traffickers. These are critical actions, but these efforts are financially and socially costly.
PREVENTION STRATEGY
Washington Engage focuses on preventing human trafficking to protect those who are vulnerable. We launch and empower community coalitions to shift the social norms that have allowed modern-day slavery to thrive.
The peer-to-peer support we provide increases community coalitions’ impact.
Four Strategies to Prevent Human Trafficking…through a Network of Community Coalitions:
->PROMOTE POLICIES
->REDUCE ROOT CAUSES
->EDUCATE THE PUBLIC
->PROTECT YOUTH
Washington Engage is a 501c3 tax-exempt non-profit organization.
