Veto is the largest and oldest student magazine in Belgium. Veto informs 50,000 students every week via its website and social media. During the academic year, a paper edition of 40 pages comes out every fortnight.
Veto is headed by a chief editor, assisted by an editorial secretary and an end editor. The editorial secretary is paid part-time; for the rest, Veto runs exclusively on volunteers. The rest of the editorial staff consists of permanent editors who coordinate a department, such as education or culture. All other volunteers choose which articles they want to write and how much time they want to invest in Veto. In a year, about 150 people work on Veto.
Every week we hold an editorial meeting at our editorial office in 's-Meiersstraat. There, the editors propose different topics, from which volunteers can make a choice.
Everyone is welcome at Veto: we are always looking for photographers, journalists, cartoonists, illustrators, ICT people, joke tellers, readers and handymen. There is a lot involved in a fortnightly publication. Veto alumni can be found in every newspaper in Flanders.
