The Glass Competence Center (GCC) unites the competences of the Institute of Structural Mechanics and Design (ISM+D) and the Center for Structural Materials (MPA-IfW) in structural glass engineering and design.
The main manufacturing processes in flat glass processing can be realized in the new research building. Specifically, flat glass can be cut, ground, drilled, washed and processed into laminated safety glass. In addition, the GCC includes an adhesive lab, an optical lab, a melting lab, outdoor weathering areas and a facade test rig. Another highlight is the self- developed glass 3D printer for printing on flat glass.
These facilities, in combination with the extensive experimental testing equipment, will serve to promote research and the exchange of knowledge between users, authorities, industry, students and researchers.
