Isfahan University of Technology was founded in 1974 as the Isfahan branch of Aryamehr University of Technology before the revolution in Iran and admitted its first students in 1977. The university was designed and planned directly based on models of MIT and University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and covers about 23 square kilometers and has its dorms, shopping center, sports & recreation centers and medical centers on the campus.
The university has maintained its lifelong reputation for the quality of education as for the 2013-2014 educational year, Times Higher Education (THE) has ranked Isfahan University of Technology 95 among top 100 Universities in entire Asia. It is the third Iranian University to be listed in International rankings after Sharif University of Technology (42), and Tehran University of Medical Sciences (62), for the second year in a row.
