Salym Petroleum Development (SPD) is a Joint Venture of Shell and the Russian oil company Gazprom Neft established on a 50:50 basis. Since 2003 SPD has been developing the Salym group of oilfields (West Salym, Upper Salym and Vadelyp), which are located in Western Siberia. The Salym Project is one of the largest investment projects with foreign participation in the Russian oil industry. Since the launch of the Salym Project in 2003, SPD has drilled over 1200 wells and produced over 75 million tons of oil.
