Our mission is to foster and communicate the spirit, diversity, and transformative power of American music while advancing choral excellence, community outreach and affordable music education for all ages in the nation's capital.
Congressional Chorus, an 100-voice Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass ensemble under the leadership of Alan Laiño, is the only chorus in the metropolitan DC area that focuses on singing an eclectic variety of American music, including world premiere commissioned works, 21st century "new music," blues, jazz, contemporary classical, folksongs, rock, spirituals, Broadway hits, and popular standards. Singers come from all professions and live in DC, Maryland and Virginia.
The chorus is an excellent, committed group of singers regularly reaching out to new members through an open audition process. There are rolling auditions throughout the year, depending on space availability in sections. Acceptance into the chorus is based on a number of factors, including, but not limited to, intonation, technique, sight reading skills, vocal quality and previous choral experience.

Rehearsals
Congressional Chorus' season runs from late August to early June. Rehearsals are held every Monday evening from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm with an occasional Saturday rehearsal.
Other Expectations
Singers are often asked to help with some of the logistics for a concert, such as helping to set up, distribute fliers, clean up for concert events, and other tasks. Members are also expected to promote ticket sales and help with fundraising. Our friends and families form an important part of our audience, and we hope that members will be excited to sell tickets to all of our performances.
