SPARWOOD, BC
We may be called ‘that town with the big green truck’ or we might be that community in the beautiful Rocky Mountains, right on BC’s border. But if there’s one thing we are to everyone, it’s a mining community; a collection of hard-working fun-loving people who happily call Sparwood home. We’re proud to share that with you.
Stop by anytime, share a smile or stay a while. It’s yours and mine to discover!
OUR ROOTS
Sparwood is located in the traditional territory of the Ktunaxa Nation, which
covers approximately 70,000 km² within the Kootenay region of southeastern British Columbia. Heritage and local mining history also play a large role in the character and identity of Sparwood and its residents. Some residents still have strong memories of the former settlements of Michel, Natal, and Middletown that were relocated to Sparwood in the mid-60s.
OUR LIFESTYLE
Sparwood sits alongside the Elk River, in an area that is very unique in terms of the incredible diversity of wildlife which coexists in this Rocky Mountain landscape. A few of the choices include world renowned fly fishing in the Elk River and Michel Creek, hiking, mountain biking, camping, golf, numerous lake activities, hunting, cross country skiing and worldclass alpine skiing at nearby Fernie Alpine Resort.
