LawRight improves the lives of vulnerable people by increasing access to justice through strategic partnerships with pro bono lawyers.
LawRight is a partnership of law firms, ILPs, in-house legal units, barristers, the Queensland Law Society, the Queensland Bar Association, and university law schools.
LawRight is committed to working in a flexible and innovative way to improve access to justice for people who cannot afford to pay a private lawyer and are ineligible for legal aid, and for community groups with public interest objectives.
LawRight operates a civil law referral service and undertakes law reform, policy work and legal education.
LawRight also provides direct pro bono representation, advice and assistance through specialist legal clinics for particular disadvantaged client groups.
LawRight is managed by a committee comprised of representatives of its members. The committee is elected annually by members.
LawRight is a member of CLCQ and is insured under the National Association of Community Legal Centres (NACLC) auspiced Professional Indemnity and Directors and Officers insurance policies. As a community legal centre (CLC) and member of QAILS, LawRight seeks to support other CLCs and similar community services to maximise use of their resources through offering relevant training, links with, and referral to, the private legal profession.
LawRight works with its counterparts in other states and is a member of Pro Bono Access Australia.
LawRight is accredited to National Association of Community Legal Centres.
