The Maine Legislature is one of three coequal branches of Maine's government and has the responsibility to consider, debate and establish public policy, provide the means and resources for its implementation and review its administration. 35 Senators and 151 Representatives are supported by dedicated legislative staff. Nonpartisan legislative staff provide research, bill drafting, policy and fiscal analysis, program evaluation, public information and other support functions. Staff in chamber, caucus and leadership offices provide constituent services, policy advice, media communications and parliamentary procedure guidance.
