The Chartered Institute of Directors Nigeria, formerly known as Institute of Directors Nigeria, (IoD Nigeria) is an affiliate of the Institute of Directors UK (IoD UK) which was founded in London in 1903 and granted a Royal Charter by King Edward VII in 1906.
The IoD spread its wings rapidly throughout the Commonwealth and elsewhere and today there are divisions or associated institutions in over 100 countries.
Founded on 17 May 1983, CIoD Nigeria has been at the forefront of promoting good governance practices in Nigerian companies and the Public Sector. Through its various activities, IoD Nigeria had helped develop a professional standard of directorship, and provided best practice guidelines for company directors to perform their duties effectively up to the international standards
It is CIoD Nigeria believe that with effective directors, the company will be guided in the way that it can be managed and operated effectively, hence, resulting in shareholders’ value and sustainable growth of the Nigerian economy.
In 1997, the Council of the Chartered Institute of Directors Nigeria, then a branch of IoD UK, sought autonomy and was granted affiliate status.
