Voters elected me the first woman to serve as Nassau County Comptroller in 2021. As Comptroller, I see myself as the Independent Protector of the Taxpayers of Nassau County. I lead a team of more than 60 dedicated CSEA professionals who are responsible for ensuring that Nassau County, which has a budget of over $3.5 billion and approximately 11,000 employees, operates efficiently, ethically and transparently. My office oversees critical financial functions, reports on budgets, and conducts audits.
I served as a New York State Senator representing the 7th District and chaired the Senate Banks, Infrastructure and Capital Investment and Ethics and Internal Governance Committees. In Albany, I secured state aid for local schools and communities, passed anti BDS legislation, championed lower taxes and helped bring billions in funding to protect drinking water and the environment. I authored and co-sponsored multiple pieces of legislation which became law. My legislation to keep guns away from known domestic abusers became law in 2018.
As Senator, I established a reputation for hard work, integrity and building relationships across party lines.
As the first woman Mayor of the Village of Flower Hill, I tackled financial challenges, managed the response to Superstorm Sandy and never raised taxes.
I gained extensive financial experience working at Goldman Sachs, Met Life and JP Morgan Securities. Before my election, I was with CAPTRUST as an Investment Manager for volunteer fire department pension plans.
For over 25 years I have trained in the Korean Martial Art of Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan and I am now a Fifth Degree Blackbelt. I serve on the Boards of Island Harvest, and SCO Family of Services. I was the first in my family to attend college and graduated with a BA in Political Science and MBA in Finance from Penn State University. My husband, Andy and I have three daughters, Kate, Hannah and Sarah and live in the Village of Flower Hill.
