- Interdisciplinárny prístup ako nástroj kultúrnej udržateľnosti -
The UNESCO Chair at the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava represents a professional platform focused on restoration of architectural heritage. It allows to interconnect educational and scientific research activities and workplaces of the university to professional and methodological workplaces of architectural practices, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary approach to restoration of monuments and historical sites.
The goal is to educate a generation of architects who work reasonably with ordinary building substances (of which there is the most in our region) with an effort to preserve the identity and cultural layers in the spirit of sustainability (social, economic, environmental) with an emphasis on high-quality architectural manifestations of new trends.
The concept of restoration is thus understood more broadly and can be applied with varying degrees of flexibility both to heritage-protected structures and to other, often disturbed, structures. Complex education focuses on redefining the concept of building culture, when in principle it is primarily about extending the life of the existing structures.
The UNESCO Chair at STU is a bridge between academia, research, civil society, local communities, self-government, public administration and policy making.
