GOENOMICS provides genome annotations to help agriculture, biotech and academia to develop and better understand genomic traits for improved plants and fungi. Improving plants is important to secure worldwide food supply, by optimising for example heat resistance and resistance against nutrient and water scarcity, and agricultural pests. Better understanding fungal biology is important to treat agricultural diseases and to improve fungi for industrial drug production or waste management.
The term genome annotation summarises all steps with which each of the nucleotides of a genome sequence is given an explanation. Genome annotations are done in two steps: In the first step, all regions are identified that might have functional importance for the organism. In the second step, each of the identified regions is assigned a putative function, which is derived by comparing the region against knowledge from many databases and literature.
Genome annotations provide the base for all downstream experiments like breeding, genetics, genomics, and proteomics. By delivering high quality data, GOENOMICS enables customers to avoid needless, meaningless and unsuccessful experiments and therefore to save money.
