Sierra Academy of Aeronautics is a PART 141 Flight School that has been training pilots for over 50 years. Our base of operations is situated at the former U.S. Castle Air Force Base (STRATEGIC AIR COMMAND) in Atwater, California where we have a 2 mile runway, 9 different categories of approaches, and multiple pilot facilities designed by the Air Force for housing and training pilots and meeting all of their needs – both on the ground and in the air.
With over 40 aircraft and 200 students at any given time of the year, our flight instructors make an average of 100 to 150 flight hours per month. Which means Sierra Academy has a high turn-over rate of instructors due to reaching ATP minimums at a quick pace. This high productivity rate also means there are always several openings and attractive opportunities for flight instructors to take advantage of, such as company sponsorships toward CFII and MEI, as well as positions in both the High Performance C90 King Air program, and in our Aerobatic Spin Recovery Training program. All of which are great opportunities that provide experience and an edge when applying to airlines.
Flight Instructors at Sierra Academy (both past and present) have also enjoyed numerous career advancement opportunities. We have seen two of our Assistant Chiefs become Designated Practical Examiners (DPE’s) for the FAA, and even our current company President, the Director of Flight Operations, Chief and Assistant Chiefs were all former/current Sierra Academy employees.
