The European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) is a unique endeavour in EU Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP). In order to monitor the implementation of the peace agreements of 12 August and 8 September, which have been brokered by the European Union, and to contribute to stabilisation and normalisation in post-conflict Georgia, the foreign ministers of the 27 Member States decided on 15 September to deploy a civilian and unarmed monitoring mission.
In only two weeks – by October 1st -, EU succeeded to deploy more than 200 monitors from 22 Member States on the ground. This has been the fastest deployment of a mission, the EU has ever done. Nowadays the EUMM has monitors from 26 Member States.
