The main tasks of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage are the following:
- supporting and popularisation of cultural and artistic activity – primarily implemented through supervision of institutions within the area of theatre, music, art and film,
- promotion of Polish Culture – the department coordinates international cooperation in the area of promoting the creativity of our artists in the international arena,
- conducting activities aimed at maintaining and promoting the national and state tradition – including issues related to monuments, places of national remembrance, graves, war cemeteries and Holocaust Memorials,
- promotion of Polish museum collections available in the country and abroad and care for the achievements of Polish museology – promotion, protection and recovery of cultural heritage abroad as well as provision of assistance to Polish and emigration institutions abroad conducting cultural activity,
- supervision of public artistic education – coordination of development of curriculum in schools and at universities and their cooperation with foreign institutions as well as in the scope of recognition of diplomas; implementation of scholarship programmes for pupils and students,
- supervision of compliance in terms of copyright, media and film law; participation in amending and creating the copyright, media and film law,
- implementation of tasks related to regional policy of the Community in the area of culture and informing of EU funds, and sharing information on EU programmes related to culture in the context of Poland’s membership in the European Union; a serious objective is coordination of tasks related to the implementation of Priority Axis XI: CULTURE AND NATIONAL HERITAGE of the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment, the Cultural Exchange Fund and Priority Axis: PROTECTION OF EUROPEAN CULTURAL HERITAGE of the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area and the Norwegian Financial Mechanism.
