Founded in 1872, Comgás has seen many changes before being what it is today, in over 140 years of history.
The company was privatized in 1999, when BG Group and Shell acquired controlling interest of Comgás for R$1.6 billion. In May 2012, Cosan acquired from BG Group 60.05% of the share capital of Comgás.
Nowadays, Comgás is Brazil’s largest piped natural gas distributor, with impressive figures for the greatness and importance in the national economy and people's lives. It has a network of 10 thousand kilometers, bringing natural gas to more than 1.3 million residential, commercial and industrial consumers in 70 cities.
Its concession area accounts for approximately 27% of Brazil's Gross Domestic Product, covering 177 cities in the São Paulo, Campinas and Santos.
