Founded in 2016 to protect the Atlantic Rainforest and all its inhabitants, it occupies an area of 129 hectares of native forest in the buffer zone of the Serra do Mar State Park, the most preserved section of the São Paulo metropolitan region and the most threatened by rapid and disorderly urban growth.
The Institute's main objective is the protection of one of the last remaining stretches of Atlantic Rainforest in Brazil, through programs and activities in the areas of environmental preservation, agroforestry, education, culture, building the spirit of community, ecotourism and solidarity economy, aiming local development in a sustainable way so that we can all live in harmony with the standing and healthy forest. ITL also offers courses, experiences and self-knowledge retreats in its super charming facilities in the forest.
The guardians of Instituto Terra Luminous are committed to taking care of the quality of the air, water, and soil and to maintain protection actions for all beings that inhabit this forest, to guarantee the full diversity of flora, fauna and fungi in order to help maintain the sustainability of this UNESCO declared humanity heritage ecosystem, contributing to the climate balance of the planet.
The Atlantic Forest is one of the richest forests in terms of species diversity and today about 10% of the original stretch that runs from the south to the northeast of Brazil remains.
We believe that together we can keep the forest standing, generating a positive socio-environmental impact… it just depends on all of us.
Let's go in this together?! You too can support this mission! Too easy!
The planet and future generations will thank you.
