The NGO Écoles du Monde (EDM) was created in 1997 by the film producer Charles Gassot, who is still its President today. While in Madagascar to shoot a film, he decided to get involved in order to participate in the development of the country. While many organizations work in urban areas, the main objective of Écoles du Monde is to promote rural development, so that living conditions are better and the rural exodus, which daily swells the slums of large cities, is limited. This is why we seek to improve access to basic services: access to drinking water, access to education, access to health care, and the development of income-generating activities (agricultural and artisanal). The Besely Campus located 40km from Mahajanga (Madagascar) illustrates the ambition of Ecoles du Monde and its vision of local development.
