Rotary Club of Calgary, Downtown is an organization of change-makers and city-builders. From our earliest beginnings in 1914, the Club has sought to connect leaders from diverse backgrounds to exchange ideas, share interests and take action on many of our toughest social challenges. Many of Calgary’s foundational charitable organizations (like the Boys and Girls Club of Calgary and the United Way) can trace their origins back to this Rotary Club’s early decades. For over one hundred years, Rotarians have played instrumental roles in building Calgary. From helping to establish and grow The Calgary Foundation to playing key roles in the development of The Children’s Hospital, Mount Royal University, the Calgary Stampede and City Council, Rotarians have shown incredible leadership and vision in building our city. But their reach extends far beyond Calgary. Rotarians have held Board and Officer positions with Rotary International, contributed to the global “Polio Plus Eradication” program and helped people in impoverished countries around the world with clean water partnership programs. Today, the Rotary Club of Calgary Downtown plays important roles in education, health and humanitarian issues. Our Club has an enormous capacity to influence, inspire and deliver on improving our community for the next 100 years. We exemplify the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self” and show how an entire community can improve when we put our heads, hearts and hands together.
